Teen Council
What is the teen council?
The Homewood Library Teen Council gives teens the opportunity to help make the library serve them even better - through fun programs (like gaming and movie nights and teen trips) and materials (books, DVDs, CDs, etc). Every year, teens will elect a new teen council of five members. Anyone in grades 7-12 is welcome to run. Elections are held every October in conjunction with the Teen Halloween Party. (We are debuting the teen council in fall 2008. Before the teen council, we had a Teen Advisory Board, or TAB, with 2-3 officers.)
What does the teen council do?
The teen council meets with the Young Adult Librarian, Miss Barnes, several times a year to plan fun programs that all teens (grades 7-12) are welcome to attend.
Past teen activities include:
a bake sale,
a DDR night,
tie-dying,
hosting graphic novelist Philip Yeh,
mehndi,
a screening of Mean Girls,
...and the list goes on.
How can I get involved in the teen council?
If you are interested in running for the teen council, all you have to do is come to the Halloween Party on October 27, where we will be holding elections.
What if I just want to come to the teen activities?
That's great! New teens are always welcome to come to our programs. During the school year, our programs require no registration, so you can always come and feel free to bring your friends. (In the summer, a few programs do require registration). If you would like to recieve emails about teen programs at the library, email the Young Adult Librarian, Miss Barnes at yalibrarian.homewood@gmail.com, or stop by the Youth Services desk.
