The Fall 2008 issue of Highlights announced that the Homewood Public Library and the Homewood Historical Society (HHS) had formed a "Partnership in History" and would co-sponsor occasional programs of historical interest. That partnership has taken one giant step forward and, effective January 1, 2009 , the Library and HHS Boards have agreed to have their respective organizations become more closely allied in the following ways:

1)  HHS will conduct all future meetings in the Mable Murphy Meeting Room at the Library on the second Wednesday of each month (September through May of each year) at 7:00 p.m. All meetings and programs will be free of charge and open to the public. New memberships to the HHS, of course, would be more than welcome. Membership forms will be available at the Library, at the HHS Dorband-Howe House Museum (2035 West 183rd Street), and at all HHS meetings.

2)  All future HHS programs at the Library will be co-sponsored by the Library.

3)  A listing of HHS meetings and HHS/Library programs will appear on the Library Calendar of Events, Library web site, and in the Library Highlights quarterly newsletter.

Both the Library and HHS feel that this Partnership in History is a perfect fit that will be mutually beneficial to each, as well as to Library patrons. It is with this in mind that we extend a cordial invitation to the Library community to visit any or all of our meetings/programs to learn more about Homewood's rich histry as well as about other intersting historical events.

Homewood Historical Society News

HHS is participating in the Library of Congress Veterans Project, which is an attempt to interview all World War II, Korean, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. We would like to hear from Homewood veterans who are willing to have their stories heard and preserved. This project is being done in conjunction with the Social Studies Department at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. Volunteers should call 799-1896.
