In the Lobby
We have asked our presenters to tell us a little about
why they do what they do and what they are hoping you will see, through
their display. This month’s display features:
Woodworking -- presented by the Hickory Hills Woodworkers and the South Suburban Chiselers
Tell us about what you will be exhibiting in our lobby display case?
The case on the left has items made by members of the Hickory Hills Woodworkers, located in Oak Lawn. The case on the right has items from members of the South Suburban Chiselers and Illiana Woodturners, located in South Holland, where members have access to the club workshop and grounds.
How did you start to do this type of work/collecting?
The Hickory Hills Woodworkers started at the Hickory Hills Woodcraft store back in the 90's. Membership has grown to over 60 members interested in all aspects of woodworking. The South Suburban Chiselers started back in the 70's and has grown to support the Midwest Carvers Museum with hundreds of carvings from around the world, most done by our members.
As people stop and take in your display, what do you hope they will gain from the experience?
Appreciate the craftsmanship of our members' work and appreciate the unique items that member have created. The clubs can assist in learning how to make some of these items by mentoring. The South Suburban Chiselers have a fully-equipped workshop that is available to members. Both clubs have monthly meetings.
